My husband and I had our Christmas Dinner at Miller and Carter Aughton, we really enjoyed it. We had Mike as our waiter, he was excellent. He was very professional and polite and knew his job. He certainly made our day. The food was excellent. The time's of the tables where staggered which was an excellent idea. It worked well. With complete candor, I have had mixed experiences here. The first time I went, the quality of food, service and enjoyment was exquisite; absolutely no faults to mention. However, when I decided to go most recently, to celebrate my mother's birthday, I was left utterly disappointed at almost every attribute I had thought to be amazing before, the quality of this visit adverse. My steak (sirloin): admittedly not the most clean cut of stakes but when there is almost as much astringent gristle as there is meat, I think it is safe to say that something is wrong at the very least. My mother's meal (tempura lobster and scallops with salad): on a previous occasion, there had been 6 pieces of fish, 3 lobster and 3 scallops, with a separate bowl of salad and dressing and she had been offered any additional sauces that she may have wanted. Having asked for exactly the same this time around, she received 1 tempura lobster and two scallops (both of which were doughy and unsatisfactory to the consumer) with a few salad leaves at the bottom of the petite bowl, feeble and futile compared to the last time. There was no such effort to ensure her contentment from the staff, departing immediately after delivering the so called 'meal' and leaving her to assimilate what she had actually been given and whether there had possibly been a mistake. To the manager's credit (what little remained) we were presented with apologies and a sum removed from the overall bill. On the other hand, is this not standard procedure for any inadequate meal at any respectable restaurant? We left feeling that everything that night had been egregious and the response to our complaints, banal and risible - with not even a notably munificent offer to rekindle our rapidly fading interest. Others' opinions may differ but from my personal experience, I would be very cautious before making the decision to eat there again.
After many recommendations, we visited the Aughton branch last Monday. First impressions count for us and I have to say we were very disappointed. We ordered drinks and were given two glasses, no ice and two bottles of soft drinks with the screw caps still fastened. I asked for ice and was informed the machine was broken. Having been in the licensed trade ourselves for over 15 years, we would have sourced ice from one of several supermarkets in close proximity,rather than not provide it. The least we would have expected was the member of staff to dispense the drinks into the glasses, especially at the price we were charged. The food was lack lustre and did not live up to either menu description or recommendations. We would suggest a review of basic staff training and that management resolve simple issues like no ice. It's the little things that mean the most for customer experience!!
